Alan Richman on NYC’s Top Five Burgers

Filed under: Food — Jase @ 10:03 am

I have no idea who Alan Richman is or why he’s qualified to rate hamburgers but Gothamist just posted up his top burger joints in the city.

Shake Shack - Never been but with that line the shit must be good
Burger Joint - I think there was one of these on 3rd ave in Gramercy but perhaps “Burger Joint” is a pretty common name for these types of places
Peter Luger - Haven’t been here either but best believe I’ll be getting the steak and not the burger
Big Nick’s Burger & Pizza Joint - Upper West Side? Not anytime soon (UPDATE: Wait I’ve been here! But I didn’t get the burger… ok well UWS mehh..)
Blue Smoke - This one is on my way home, I’ll check it out this week

Here are the burgers I’ve actually had in NYC

Spotted Pig - Best burger I’ve had. Sure it was $15 but it makes Bay Area places like Burger Bistro and Barney’s taste like fast food
RARE - Also a delicious burger. Paired with their spicy Bloody Mary and Deep Fried Oreos this made for a fine brunch
McDonald’s - These taste the same pretty much anywhere you get them. Only difference is that they’re x2 the price in NY.

King of the Diet Sodas

Filed under: Food — Jase @ 12:40 pm

One of the draws of working in New York was doing my 9-5 (more like 7-10) at company’s prime office near NYU. There is always something happening in the area, the bars are great, the energy is incredible, and the building is a solid 8/10.  Oh and my glutes are loving these standard Herman Millers.

One of the unexpected benefits was the range of free sodas available in our communal fridge. Sure this isn’t Google but we got a nice variety of beverages including Coke, Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, Ginger Ale, Soda Water, Bottled Water, and MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE Diet Dr. Pepper! (it really does taste like regular Dr. Pep btw)

I down about 4-5 of these on the regular, may be more if its a really challenging day at the grind. I’m sure it’s not good for me but it can’t be worse that all the shit I breath in on my way to work.

The roommate is starting to feel the love of the DDP but he’ll never wrench himself free of Diet Mountain Dew, the lesser sperm count reducing diet soda. I swear he’d be a happy man if he could get an IV of DMD straight into his veins — the man is HOOKED (think Pooky & Crack in New Jack City). I think we need an intervention.

So in summary I highly recommend DDP as the thirst quencher of choice. You can pick one up at your local deli or duane reed, just be sure to wipe off the CM of dirt on the top of the can before you drink it. Oh and don’t be fooled by the “Limited Edition” Indy cans, they’re far from limited and taste the same!

Milliseconds away from Ko!

Filed under: Food — Jase @ 9:05 am

Arrrrrrrrg I made it all the way to the time slot selection screen only to find out that the 8:15 slot was already taken after I selected it. I scrambled to select another time but all I saw were the dreaded red X’s. Till tomorrow 10am Momofuku Ko — I will not lose.
